To ease her jitters, she and the President decided to visit our friends to the north, the Canadians. There, she was received by Governor General Vanier who was immediately impressed with her views on her nation - particularly the "miraculous" birth of our Constitution as a blueprint for our way of life. To honor her patriotism, Vanier commissioned this brooch from a jewelry master craftsman, who chose to create in stunning detail, the US flag of 1777.
Jackie always stressed her nation's achievements, and believed they sprung from the optimism that had become a national characteristic - a charasteristic that would prove precious in both good times and bad."
